Hi! My name is John Yula and I am an educator. I grew up on the East Coast spending the majority of the year in Basking Ridge, NJ and my summers in Montauk, NY. My summers are what really helped define me and make me the person I am today. From the second I was able I would be at the ocean. I felt more comfortable in the water than I did on land so my first job naturally was being a lifeguard. Year round I would guard at either the Y.M.C.A. in New Jersey or the ocean in Montauk. What really helped show me my path was teaching. I immediately fell in love with educating others through either giving swim lessons or training junior lifeguards.
I knew what I had to do and so I went to Millersville University to pursue a degree in Secondary Education concentrating on Social Studies. I thrived at college and joined the rugby team. The helped to keep me in shape physically while my studies do so mentally and academically. I also graduated with honors from the history department after writing a thesis on gas warfare in the First World War.
In my six years since graduating with my Bachelors in Education I have been dedicated to creating student centric learning environments and experiences through a variety of highly diverse learning venues. These have ranged from teaching Native Inupiaq Eskimos grades 7-12 a variety of subjects in Alaska, designing and implementing Colorado’s first 1:1 iPad college, to teaching grades 7-12 in two different rural Coloradan districts. I have also taught both collegiate students and instructors regarding the proper use of various educational technologies both in and out of the classroom.
